§ 117-26. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Accessory structure means all other impervious improvements, which include, but are not limited to, driveways, parking areas, decks, porches, pools and gazebos.

    Chimney means any vertical structure rising above the roofline that contains a flue or passage through which smoke and gasses may escape from a fire or furnace.

    Or

    Chimney means any structure rising above the roof line that is designed solely for venting the exhaust gases created by gas-fired furnaces and appliances or through which smoke may escape from a fireplace, woodstove or similar device.

    Food processing means any method employed to bring abut a change or function of edible materials, including, but not limited to, cooking, baking, canning, freezing and preserving.

    Impervious means any impermeable or semi-impermeable surface that impedes the absorption of rainfall into the soil or causes rainfall run-off in a manner that creates accumulation and channeling of the water and creates soil erosion.

    Impervious cover means a surface composed of any material that significantly impedes or prevents the natural infiltration of water into soil. Impervious surfaces include, but are not limited to, rooftops, buildings, streets and roads, and any concrete or asphalt surface.

    Primary structure means the main house or any part thereof located on the property.

    Subject property means the property under consideration, property for which a permit has been applied, or property that is facing legal action for building or zoning infractions.

    Zoned R-1 means single family residential structures connected to sanitary sewer.

    Zoned R-2 means single family residential structures connected to an approved septic system.
